Shadow Teams

Context

To understand this article, you need to understand that Ignite teams make games in something called the Ignite Cycle, which is a monthly cycle in which a game is developed and published for all to see.
We also use the term "B-Team" for shadow teams.

What is Shadowing?

B-Team members shadow the core team. Shadowing is the act of joining a team in order to learn from that team, while actively contributing to the work being done.

  • Shadowers are active participants on teams.
  • Shadowers must submit with a team, just like a team member.
  • Shadowers are considered team members until the end of the cycle.

Do B-Team members continue with the team at the end of the cycle?

At the end of each cycle, those that joined the B-Team form their own team within the Legion.

As a team leader, why would I allow a Shadow Team or B-Team to operate within my team?

  • Less burdensome team splits:
    • Every person you take on to your team as a B-Team member is a person that doesn't need to split from your current team at the end of the cycle.
  • Headcount increased by +6 members.

Who counts as a B-Team member?

Anyone who joined after your 6th team member joined and who contributed at least one asset to the game or helps create five or more tasks for the team as a producer is considered a B-Team member.

Who can start a B-Team?

Any team that already has 6 members can start a B-Team.

Can a team start more than one B-Team?

Yes, but maximum 2 per team.

How can a team start a B-Team?

  1. The first thing you'll need is a B-Team leader.
    • Ideally, this is someone with production or leadership skills who may want to join your team despite an existing producer's presence or someone who could eventually split off and form their own team.
  2. Have your B-Team leader register your B-Team.

Do B-Teams get added to my Legion?

By default, B-Teams rejoin the Legion they split from. However, a B-Team leader can start their own Legion if they wish.

How do people join my team's B-Team?

Anyone who is not member numbers 1-6 on your team is automatically part of your B-Team. If you have more than one B-Team, you will need to work this out manually.

How do B-Team members join a team?

They just do the individual registration as any other team member would, and you give them the related T1 or T2 or T3 join pass.

Why do B-Teams or Shadow Teams exist?

These Teams exist to encourage mentorship so that teams will constantly form and mentor new teams.

OPTIONAL FAQ:

  1. Do B-Team members work on the same game?

    • Yes, until the team splits.
  2. What is the ideal makeup of a B-Team?

    • That's up to you.
  3. Is having a B-Team optional?

    • Yes, unless you have more than 6 members.
  4. At the end of the cycle, if you have a B-Team and it doesn't have enough members, what do you do?

    • Let's say most of your team ranks up to Tier 3 and some are left in Tier 2. You would give the Tier 2 members to the B-Team.
  5. Do B-Teams have to break off?

    • Yes.
  6. Do B-Team members rank up?

    • B-Team members operate in the same way as full team members when it comes to ranking up.
  7. What if I want a team of 7 people?

    • You have a maximum of 6 unless you want to create a B-Team, and that B-Team does need a separate producer.
