Legion Daily Checklist

Watch This Together

Introduction To This Checklist

This checklist is designed to be read by the Legion commander to their Legion.  Having had experience leading teams, you know that just diving in and making a game without proper planning will lead to failure, whereas following a predefined process is the key to success.

Every day you will follow the instructions for that day as listed in this checklist.

๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ WARNING: Legion Commander ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ๐ŸŸฅ

Legion Commanders must ensure their Legion follows this checklist and the Daily Split Checklist each day after completing the Legion checklist.

Despite this, they should use their intuition to skip steps when appropriate, but must have a solid reason that can be explained to the Ignite Host.

Their team will evaluate their performance at the end of each sprint cycle. Legion Commanders who excel can apply to the Accelerated Legion Program. This program prepares legions for significant and impactful projects beyond learning and training.

They don't need to think about the program now, but they should know the participation criteria:

  1. The Legion is well organized and meets daily.
  2. The Legion follows the points in this checklist, explains them or replaces them with their own thought-through points.
  3. The Legion embodies the values of [P1] deeply caring for those outside the Legion too.

Legion Commanders must ensure their Legion follows this checklist and the daily split checklist each day after completing the Legion checklist.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Legend

๐Ÿ”ธ Orange = the Legion Commander should read this.
๐Ÿ”น Blue = Everyone should follow this silently together.
๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ = Headers/subheaders.
๐Ÿฅ‡Goals: Goals help your team understand why a section has been created so that they can use their creativity to accomplish the goal without going through everything step by step.
2๏ธโƒฃ What to do on your second time going through the checklist, if different.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 1

Tip: The worst mistake we see teams making is diving into making games right away.  It's much more expedient to really understand your goals, limits and your resources and then define a game based on that rather than the other way around. Getting your teams to buy into that understanding is important.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Leadership

If your Legion Commander is not here, open:

The Guide to Appointing a Leader

๐ŸŸฆ๐Ÿ”„ Appoint a Time Keeper/Facilitator

๐Ÿ”„ Do this section only if your team leader is not here. Repeat this any day in which this is the case.

๐Ÿ”น Someone must be in charge of keeping things flowing at a reasonable pace. If you are willing to help, speak up in voice chat. If no on is speaking, it's your time to take initiative and break the silence.

๐Ÿ”น Elect someone to be a facilitator.

  • Nominate candidates by @tagging them
  • Or step up by @tagging yourself
  • Congratulate those who step up ๐Ÿ‘
  • Use ๐Ÿ‘emoji for the person you want to lead
  • Don't elect the same person twice in a row.

๐Ÿ”ธ = The elected person's responsibility.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: I've been elected to facilitate this meeting, but you need to follow me on this checklist, or you'll miss important parts of what we do.

๐ŸŸง Defining Your Values

๐Ÿฅ‡ Goals: Make a list of values on a public board that everybody understands and agrees on in your Legion.

2๏ธโƒฃ If this is the second time you're going through this, simply make sure new Legion members know your values. And explain to them why you actually treasure them the way that you do.

โŒš  Set a timer for five minutes for this exercise.  Work quietly and have everyone paste their results in Discord.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have your Legion make a list of 5 values they think are most important to an effective workplace and to order them from 1 to 10, with 1 being the highest.

Example: Integrity - to do what you say you're going to do.

๐Ÿ”ธ Vote together on the values you feel are most  essential to your Legion.

โŒš  Set a timer for five minutes for this exercise.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have everyone set up a Miro account.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Steal this template and copy it into your own Miro board:

https://miro.com/welcomeonboard/d012VlgxZWE4VURHcm1JMWV6N1FHUzZ1WHdIeEUzc202TlAzZWtzMElWbFVmRXpVQ3RlVDYyd1k2NGM2UGR2d3wzMDc0NDU3MzU5NzY5NjU3Njg4fDI=?share_link_id=595431067931

๐Ÿ”ธ Have everyone join the same board and make a list as follows of the values that you've brainstormed, the ones you've chosen, and how you define the ones you've chosen:

This is an example of what the results should look like.  This board should serve as a core place for your whole Legion to understand your values and expectations.

๐ŸŸง Creating Your Org Chart

๐Ÿฅ‡ Goals:  Have a reference that will help your team know who to go to when they need to solve a particular problem.

2๏ธโƒฃ Update the chart.

โŒš  Set a timer for five minutes for this exercise.

๐Ÿ”ธ Work together to create a clear chart which defines who leads the Legion and who leads each Division and who leads each team.

๐Ÿ”ธ As part of this exercise, you need to appoint a second, third, and fourth in command of your Legion (1st Division Commander, 2nd etc.). They will be in charge on days when they're not available.

Your version of the chart should clearly state each name.  You will be asked to submit this on final submission to create clarity concerning who is on what page.

๐Ÿ”ธ Explain that if anybody is confused or in trouble, they should go up this chart to see who they should speak to. Whether they're a team leader or whether they're mentoring the Division leader.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Registering Newly Established Teams

2๏ธโƒฃ Each team needs to re-register each time, so make sure they do that. It's a separate link on the same page.

๐Ÿ”ธ Identify the teams that got established during the team split.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Have them break off now and fill in this form under "Re-Registration"

https://p1oc.net/igniteregister

๐Ÿ”ธ Ask them to come back when done.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Introductions

๐Ÿ”ธ Appoint somebody to help with Introductions for the day.

๐Ÿ”ธ Send them back to the Ignite host to help out. The Ignite host will explain how to do introductions if necessary.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Explain How Team Splitting Works

๐Ÿ”ธ Explain that team leaders are about to follow a checklist for teams.

๐Ÿ”ธ Paste this in chat:

Visual:

https://i.imgur.com/KHLkJpO.png

๐Ÿ”ธ Explain it.

๐Ÿ”ธ Explain that experienced or ongoing teams might need to skip some parts of the checklist. Tell them to use common sense.

Tip:  Explain to them that colored tip boxes like this one help them know if they should be doing that part of the checklist or not. These boxes are below major headers symbols like: ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ. Tell them that if they choose to skip a major header like ๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ the subpoints listed as ๐ŸŸฆ need to be skipped likely too.

Example:
๐ŸŸฆ๐ŸŸฆ Header of a Section to Skip
๐ŸŸฆ Subsection You Should Probably Also Skip

๐Ÿ”ธ  Tell them to remain in their voice channel when done.

๐Ÿ”ธ Explain that teams are encouraged not to work on their game right away but rather to go through the pitching process and to take a little slack in the early days since everybody needs to get their pitch approved before they can work on the game and this is deliberately designed to create a little bit of a slower pace so that people don't burn out as they go from one cycle to the next.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Split

๐Ÿ”ธ Have each team leader split off and follow this checklist with their team:

https://p1oc.net/nextsteps

If you need some help splitting teams, use this guide

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: Now we're going to split up into teams and follow a particular checklist.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say:  I'll post that checklist in chat now.

๐Ÿ”ธPaste:  Checklist: https://p1oc.net/nextsteps  Hub channel <#1235305125225168906>

๐Ÿ”ธ Say:  Team leaders, I want you to find the hub channel and click on that now and then I'll send your team members to you.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say:  Okay, if you see your team leader in a voice channel, I want you to go to their voice channel now.

๐Ÿ”ธ Distribute any team members left in your channel to the appropriate team.

๐Ÿ”ธ Stay in the chat with your team until all the other teams are gone. Keep reading while you wait and help teams that might be confused or stuck as they break up.

๐Ÿ”ธ We are looking for ideas to create work-life balance during the first days of each competition, if you have ideas, please let us know: https://share.deftform.com/VGGh1z

๐Ÿ”ธ Do the checklist https://p1oc.net/nextsteps, but right here in the channel that you're already in.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Once the new teams register, they will come back, follow the checklist above with them "๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 1 Split"  as you did with the other teams just now.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 1 FAQ

Can teams do multiple days on the next steps checklist before that day arrives?

Yes.

Can teams start working on their games before they have their pitch approved?

Ideally no.  They should follow the checklist day by day instead and optimize their teams and goals.

We are looking for feedback on this here: https://share.deftform.com/VGGh1z

What if most of my Legion cannot work within the current time zone?

Have as many people as are available gather for the joint general meeting and when you break off with those people, make a decision then and there on what time you're going to meet later that day. Make sure to send your whole team a hammertime code to avoid time zone confusion: https://hammertime.cyou.

Whatever you do, do not forsake your daily meetings and don't have different times each day. Doing this will undermine the velocity of your team tremendously.

You will never find a time zone that supports everybody, and you shouldn't look to support everybody. You should draw a line in the sand and say, this is when we're meeting every single day. End of story. As otherwise, the confusion will result in even less people coming.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 2

Tip: Some items on ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 2 will be repeated daily. We will simply refer to the header (example ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Request Outreach) and you will go back to ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 2 to re-read how to do that thing.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Identify Team Leaders

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: Team leaders, post the name of your team in text chat now.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Give them a moment to type their team names.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Add the emoji ๐Ÿ‘ and ๐Ÿ† to each team's name.

๐Ÿ”ธPaste:  Use ๐Ÿ‘to indicate that you are part of a team and ๐Ÿ†to indicate that you are leading that team for today.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Introduction Givers

โŒš Capable leaders should finish in 3 minutes.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have each team rally one volunteer each to help onboard new members.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have one person volunteer for today and one person volunteer for tomorrow's Introductions for each team.

How to rally Introduction Givers

๐Ÿ”ธ Ask each team to post it's name and #teamthread

โœ… Always explain why it's important -- "Ignite seeks to make the world's education free and we are being part of that".

โœ… Ask each team leader to appoint one introduction giver for their team for that day. -- "Team leaders you have two min to choose who you will send today to give introductions, make it fast if you can so we can move quickly, coordinate in your team thread."

โœ…  Explain that those who step up are helping the whole Legion succeed by gathering helpfulness which will help you submit to the jam.

โŒ Never beg or nag.

๐Ÿ”ธSend today's Introduction volunteers back to the #๐Ÿคmeetings channel.

๐Ÿ”ธLet team leaders know that they will need to submit a list of all the Introduction givers they appointed throughout the cycle at the end of the jam, without it they won't be able to submit.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Review and Announce Important Dates

โŒš Capable leaders should finish in 4 minutes.

๐Ÿ”ธ Take a look at The Contest Process and highlight key upcoming events.

๐Ÿ”ธ It's at this time you should let them know about the pitch days and what to expect based on your experience.  If you don't have experience with them, have someone in your Legion that does speak up.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Request Outreach

๐Ÿ”ธ Say:   If you're looking for a particular skill to join your team right now, I want you to tag this tag up post in chat and let them know what sort of skill you're looking for.

๐Ÿ”ธ Paste:  @seeking team --  Our team is looking for a programmer that does C# in unity. And we will be online for the next hour in voice, please come to our voice channel and tag us if you want to join.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Setting Up Legion Rules

๐Ÿ”ธ Legion Commanders, appoint someone to lead this part of the meeting if you feel you have someone capable available. Doing so will distribute leadership experience.

Tip: Skip freely if you have done this before.  This is a recommended activity, but not a requirement.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Steal this part of the template and copy it into your own Miro board:

https://miro.com/welcomeonboard/d012VlgxZWE4VURHcm1JMWV6N1FHUzZ1WHdIeEUzc202TlAzZWtzMElWbFVmRXpVQ3RlVDYyd1k2NGM2UGR2d3wzMDc0NDU3MzU5NzY5NjU3Njg4fDI=?share_link_id=595431067931

๐ŸŸง Read the Examples

โŒš  Set a timer for 5 minutes for this exercise.

๐Ÿ”ธ Appoint two people as readers.  They will each read one section out loud.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have them read, using proper channels and [P1] rules.

๐ŸŸง Brainstorm Values

โŒš  Set a timer for 5 minutes for this exercise.

๐Ÿ”ธ Do a brainstorming session where everyone has three minutes to write down the three things they need in a workplace to work effectively, such as everyone being on time, or people treating each other with respect.

โŒš  5 min.

๐Ÿ”ธ Vote on the values you want to pursue together.

๐Ÿ”ธ Put someone in charge of turning the values you have voted on into the rules of your Legion.

๐ŸŸง๐Ÿ” Accelerated Legion Checklist

๐Ÿ”  You can skip this unless you're in the Accelerated Legion Program.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Explain to your Legion that you have been accepted as an Accelerated Legion.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Explain what that means.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Choose a hard number of games you will be approving.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 2 Split

๐Ÿ”ธ Explain that team leaders are about to follow a checklist for first-time teams.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have the team leaders create channels for their teams.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have the team members follow the team leader into their new team channel.

๐Ÿ”ธ Continue to use the channel you're in and tell people that they can come back to the Legion channel if they have questions or concerns.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 3

๐Ÿ”ธSay: No one should work on their games until their pitches are approved by their Legion during the official pitch day.

 ๐Ÿ”ธ  Do the usual:

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Identify Team Leaders

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Introduction Givers

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Review and Announce Important Dates

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Request Outreach

See Day 2 for details.

โŒš Time yourself and see if you can beat your time each day in doing this quickly and effectively.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Weekend Plans

๐Ÿ”ธ Note that we don't have official events on the weekend, but Legions can still meet. Some Legions will meet to play games together or do social activities, and others will meet to get ahead and others not at all.

๐Ÿ”ธ Decide if your Legion is going to meet on weekends, and if so, at the usual time or another time.

๐Ÿ”ธ The one advantage of meeting on the first weekend is that you can approve pitches faster, as the first day in which Legions are allowed to approve their pitches is Saturday.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Practice Pitch

Tip: The rest of this day is entirely optional. You can choose to not practice Fitches at all if you don't want to.  If you choose not to follow standard process, have a good reason. If you do skip, go down to "๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Split".

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Today is practice pitch day. If you followed the instructions, you should be ready for the pitch today.

๐Ÿ”ธ Ask if there are any teams which did not follow the instructions and make a pitch. And split those teams off and have them work on the pitch instead of staying.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Now, we're going to listen to everyone's pitch, and I want everyone to write down positives and negatives of each pitch as you hear them on your own piece of paper.

๐Ÿ”ธPaste: Template for feedback for each game:

`# Game Name

## Going Well:
โœ…
โœ…
โœ…

## Improvements Needed:
โŽ
โŽ
โŽ`

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Pitch quickly. You have 5 minutes, stay in the time limit or you will be disqualified.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: As people pitch write down their game name and 3 points of positive and negative feedback at least.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Typically, when people pitch stuff, the advantage goes to the first person and the last person due to how human memory works. If you'd like to be the first team to pitch, speak up now. Speak up in voice chat only.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Time the pitches and make sure that they stay within 5 minutes. Disqualify them if they take more than 6.

๐Ÿ”ธPaste this link: Copy your team's info link as follows: https://i.imgur.com/rs9LUi4.png

๐ŸŸง Pasting Pitch Info

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Now, in order from the first person to share their pitches to the last, I want you all to post in chat, with nobody else chatting, each different pitch with only 4 elements:

  1. Project name.
  2. Your one-sentence summary.
  3. Your planned impact on the world.
  4. A link to your team's registration. I have pasted a link which will show you how to get a link to your team's registration page.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: That's it. Good luck everybody, prepare to do that right now.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Have everyone post.

Add a โœ…, ๐Ÿคš and โŒ to every pitch.

๐Ÿ”ธPaste in chat:

Feedback on the pitch should be based on this criteria:

# 8 slide pitch

  • Is your idea put so simply that anyone can understand it in two slides? Does it have images?
  • Is it clear how the game fulfills the team's goals.
  • Is it clear how this game makes an impact on the world for good?
  • Is the art style clear?
  • Is it clear what the project will look like when complete and how long it will take the project to be completed if selected?
  • Is it clear who the target audience is?
  • Is it too wordy?
  • Keep an eye out for the primary obstacle which the player is seeking to overcome in the game. If that doesn't exist, it's probably not a game.

๐Ÿ”ธSay:  Every team should now create a thread with their game name, and the word feedback, so "Appleshoot Feedback".   Team leaders, do that now, and if you don't know how to create a thread, speak up.

๐Ÿ”ธ Wait until all have made a thread.

๐ŸŸง Actual Pitch Session

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Do this for each pitch:

  1. Remind everyone to write down their feedback for the pitch
  2. Give them 5 min to pitch
  3. Celebrate the pitch with the soundboard
  4. Highlight the pros of the pitch
  5. Ask the audience if they can describe the primary obstacle faced by the player and how they can use strategy to overcome that obstacle.
    1.  If the audience can't answer this question, tell them they need to go back and learn the basics of game design, which will be covered in the daily team checklist.
      1.  Consider setting up a workshop dedicated to the subject for your Legion.  Design workshop details >>
  6. Bring up any other cons.
  7. Ask the community for feedback on the pitch
  8. ๐Ÿ”ธSay: Anyone want to be brave and share some affirmations or concerns about the pitch? What are some things the pitch did well or where was it lacking?
  9. ๐Ÿ”ธSay: Feedback is always welcome in chat too.
  10. ๐Ÿ”ธSay: Anything that confused you about the pitch?

๐ŸŸงFeedback and Voting

๐Ÿ”ธSay:  In order to vote on the pitches, you need to first write your positive and negative feedback of each pitch down. And then we're going to post that feedback in a thread. For each piece of feedback you post in a thread, you get one vote, positive or negative, which you can leave on any of the pitches today.

๐Ÿ”ธ Give everyone two minutes to vote on the best pitch.

๐Ÿ”ธ Congratulate the winners.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: We will be coming back in our next meeting to actually do the actual pitches -- today was just practice.  Refine your pitch, rest and prepare for tomorrow.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Split

๐Ÿ”ธ Follow the same instructions as ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 2 Split.

๐Ÿ”ธ Don't be lazy with this. Actually go up and read it. Because you don't want to miss any of the key points, like people coming back to your channel for questions.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 4 - Official Pitch Day

This day could take place on either Saturday or Monday depending on the team's preference.  Unlike the practice pitch, this day is required.  No team should work on a game that isn't approved via an official pitch day.

 ๐Ÿ”ธ  Do the usual:

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Identify Team Leaders

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Introduction Givers

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Review and Announce Important Dates

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Request Outreach

See Day 2 for details.

โŒš Time yourself and see if you can beat your time each day in doing this quickly and effectively.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Actual Pitches

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Today is actual pitch day. If you followed the instructions, you should be ready for the pitch today.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: Now, we're going to listen to everyone's pitch, and I want everyone to write down positives and negatives of each pitch as you hear them on your own piece of paper.

๐Ÿ”ธ Paste: Template for feedback for each game:

โญ• In your opinion what is one game like the game presented?

## Going Well:
โœ…
โœ…
โœ…

## Improvements Needed:
โŽ
โŽ
โŽ

โญ• Describe the primary goal of the player:

โญ• Describe the primary obstacle the player will face on the way to that goal:

โญ• In your opinion will the challenge presented by the primary obstacle be fun to overcome?

โญ• Based on the above, is there a real game here? Yes/No.

โญ•  Does the game fit with the thematic guidelines of [P1] (no horror, graphic violence, etc.)

Based on all the above vote  โœ… or โŒ on the game.  Remember, being unnecessarily nice just leads to a team wasting their time.  Be honest, not kind.  If you couldn't answer the above questions because they were not clear from the pitch, then you should mention that also.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: Pitch quickly. You have 5 minutes, stay in the time limit or you will be disqualified.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: As people pitch write down their game name and 3 points of positive and negative feedback at least.

๐ŸŸง Actual Pitch Session

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Do this for each pitch:

  1. Remind everyone to write down their feedback for the pitch
  2. Give them 5 min to pitch

๐Ÿ”ธ Give everyone 5 minutes to write their feedback and vote on the best pitches.

๐Ÿ”ธ Congratulate the winners.

๐Ÿ”ธ Ask the Ignite Host to give 4000 helpfulness to the winning team via a ticket (can be done after).

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Split the Winning 50%

๐Ÿ”ธ  Those who won should be split off to do this checklist:

https://p1oc.net/nextsteps

๐Ÿ”ธ  Keep back your most experienced Legion member to help you with the next step.

๐ŸŸง Losing 50%

Giving Feedback

๐Ÿ”ธ Work with the person that stayed back with you to give feedback on the losing 50% of games, on how they can improve their pitch for the next pitch day.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have those groups that you think have potential go and improve their pitch.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Keep back those who you think need to consider a different game idea. Or a total revamp of their pitch.

Inviting Change

๐Ÿ”ธ As the Legion Commander you must ensure that people don't waste their time making games that don't have a solid gameplay loop.

๐Ÿ”ธ Work together to talk to the team leaders you believe are more lacking in their approach than the others.

๐Ÿ”ธ Talk to them about why you think their game idea is lacking and how you think they could improve their loop.

๐Ÿ”ธ  If the game idea is fundamentally flawed in your opinion, let them know that, but gently, and invite them to create a new game with the same theme and ideas.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Split the Losing 50%

๐Ÿ”ธ  Ask them to go through and refine their pitch for the next pitch day.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 5 - 2nd Official Pitch Day

๐Ÿ”ธ  Do the usual:

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Identify Team Leaders

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Introduction Givers

This time make sure it's a new introduction giver because we don't want to overload the same people over and over.

๐Ÿ”ธ Open the Contest Process dates list together and identify the next Legion War.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say:  During the internal game test day, Legions must choose which game they will present during the Legion Wars.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: Winners earn points towards victory and Helpfulness, depending on the contest guidelines.

Legion Wars Details

  • Weekly playtesting - dates.
  • Only the best game from every Legion
  • Prizes: 15/100 pts for victory + 30,000 Helpfulness (subject to changes)
  • Legions are able to bring a different game to each event.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Set Up Your Game Test Days

The goal of game test days is to get the best game identified in your Legion so you can prepare for Legion Wars.

๐Ÿ”ธ Work together with your team to decide on three test days.

Usually you want to have these one day before the Legion War.

๐Ÿ”ธ Review the Legion Wars schedule and discuss the best times for your group to prepare for test day before Legion Wars each week.

๐Ÿ”ธ Decide on a time,  do one of these voting sessions at a time, one for each week's test day:

1) Have everyone open hammertime: https://hammertime.cyou/

2) Post YOUR ideal time to have the next game test day using Hammertime:

Example: <t:1720815180:F> Friday, July 12, 2024 2:13 PM

2) Add these emoji to the message: ๐Ÿ‘ or โŒ

3) Tell everyone: If you vote โŒyou must go to https://hammertime.cyou/ and put in a new time in that same week that you would prefer.

4) The times with the most votes "win".

๐Ÿ”ธ Repeat this voting process three times once for each week positioning the day before each Legion War.

๐ŸŸง Pairing with Other Teams

๐Ÿ”ธ Now your goal is to create an event so that other people can join you for your test day in order to get cross-pollination during feedback.

1) Look near the bottom of the Discord under feedback, find: "#๐Ÿ“†community-events".

2) Find the pinned post which includes the instructions.

Have everyone vote on the three final concluded days to see which one is the one in which the least people can attend.

3) Assign a team member to follow the instructions in the template post to create two game test days for your team on the days with the most votes.

๐Ÿ”ธ Work together with your Legion to Find a good time on the week that has the most X's in order to join another Legion's test day.

Assign somebody as a Legion ambassador to apply on other Legion's posts, and talk with other them and get back to your Legion with the date agreed on as a test time.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Decide on a Prize

๐Ÿ”ธ Teams that join Legion Wars must offer a prize to the winner of Legion Wars. This can be as simple as a game key, a piece of art with somebody's name on it. Whatever it might be, it shouldn't be too expensive. And it should be all done in fun. Find the Community Prizes section together and decide on a prize that you can offer to the winner of Legion Wars.

๐Ÿ”ธ Choose three total prizes. Be creative, make it fun.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Actual Pitches

๐Ÿ”ธ  Repeat all the steps of the previous day's "๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Actual Pitches".  However, this time all pitches will be "approved" in the end unless you all agree there is no real "game" in the pitch.

๐Ÿ”ธ You may use your discretion to hold back certain games but you will need to meet 1-1 with their teams for future re-pitches.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 6

๐Ÿ”ธ Decide if today is game test day. If so, follow the guide and push today's instructions to tomorrow.

How to do a Game Test Day -- A Guide

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง How to Do a Game Test Day

๐Ÿ”ธ Since you're choosing your own test days, we will need you to create room for them in the daily schedule.   For example, if you choose to do a test day on ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 7 you should not follow the checklist for ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 7 on ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 7 or you might create an hours-long meeting.  Instead, you should move ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 7 to a more open day.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Invites

๐Ÿฅ‡  Get as many outside playtesters as possible to test your game.

๐Ÿ”ธ Assign the person who made the post on Discord and Reddit to see who responded and to reach out to those people asking them to come down in 10 min.

๐Ÿ”ธ Have everyone reach back out to those friends who were interested to test some games to send them this:

hey, did you get verified over at the P1 Discord? We're testing the game. We'd love to have you right now.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Remember to write down feedback as you test. I'll be watching!

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Playtest each game or project prioritizing outsiders so that we have the opportunity to serve them as a community. Give each as much time as you want, but understand that people may not be able to stay beyond an hour so a timer may be essential.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Voting

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Now, we want everyone who has made something that was tested today to post their one-sentence summary and a link to their project itself.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Paste this in chat:

๐Ÿ”ธSay:  Everyone create a thread for feedback for your game or link the one that you've made prior.  If you don't know how to make a private thread, this is your time to speak up.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Everyone, leave the feedback you wrote while testing the games.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Now that everyone has posted their game leave feedback in the thread for each game, and then vote for them. You have one vote for each game you leave feedback on. You can vote positive or negative.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Hold the vote. Set a timer for voting to end.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Figure out which team got the most upvotes, then subtract the downvotes or negative votes from the positive number to determine which team won.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Award the team with the highest positive votes the victory.

๐Ÿ”ธAction: Celebrate the victory.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Split

๐Ÿ”ธ Follow the same instructions as ๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Day 2 Split.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Introductions

๐Ÿ”ธ Have everyone watch this video at 1.25 speed using a Discord activity: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Ta_TN0iV00

๐Ÿ”ธ Paste: That video covers a whole lot.

- Right now the industry is very difficult to get into because you have to have work experience before you get started.

- [P1] is a place where anybody who already has skills can get started.

- However, [P1] can not really function without people helping [P1]'s system itself. Namely by taking Introduction Chats for new people and dividing teams.

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: In your own words, everyone write why Introductions and team divisions are essential based on what you saw in the video.

๐Ÿ”ธ Share why you think helping out the community is important.

๐Ÿ”ธ Once all are done, paste:

When [P1] switched from working on a centralized project to being a place where people could empower themselves to get the experience necessary to get into the industry, they made a system that depends on it's members to scale up.

Without scaling up [P1] does not have the number of contributors needed to attract recruiters to help everyone get jobs.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Ask them to post an emoji in the text chat when done reading.

๐ŸŸง Theme Selection Process

To discover a theme:

๐Ÿ”ธ Regroup, share, and vote on each other's themes:

Add emoji to the bottom of different ideas in Discord and have people choose by clicking on the emoji.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Vote on the time of the event by having everyone post a hammer time, time in which they can come to the event.

๐Ÿ”ธ  Select someone to follow the aforementioned guide to set up an event on behalf of your team.

๐ŸŸงPublicizing the Event

๐Ÿ”ธ   Ask the person assigned to follow the guide to also put in a ticket with the Ignite Host with the following text:

I would like to request that my event be listed on our Discord officially.

Here's when it will happen. In Hammer time:

Here are some potentially interesting mentors from our Legion who will come:

Here's an image that you can use for the event (something from your games):
