Legion Daily Checklist
Watch This Together
Introduction To This Checklist
This checklist is designed to be read by the Legion commander to their Legion. Having had experience leading teams, you know that just diving in and making a game without proper planning will lead to failure, whereas following a predefined process is the key to success.
Every day you will follow the instructions for that day as listed in this checklist.
๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ WARNING: Legion Commander ๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ฅ
Legion Commanders must ensure their Legion follows this checklist and the Daily Split Checklist each day after completing the Legion checklist.
Despite this, they should use their intuition to skip steps when appropriate, but must have a solid reason that can be explained to the Ignite Host.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Legend
๐ธ Orange = the Legion Commander should read this.
๐น Blue = Everyone should follow this silently together.
๐ฆ๐ฆ๐ฆ = Headers/subheaders.
๐ฅGoals: Goals help your team understand why a section has been created so that they can use their creativity to accomplish the goal without going through everything step by step.
2๏ธโฃ What to do on your second time going through the checklist, if different.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 1
๐ง๐ง Leadership
If your Legion Commander is not here, open:
The Guide to Appointing a Leader
๐ฆ๐ Appoint a Time Keeper/Facilitator
๐ Do this section only if your team leader is not here. Repeat this any day in which this is the case.
๐น Someone must be in charge of keeping things flowing at a reasonable pace. If you are willing to help, speak up in voice chat. If no on is speaking, it's your time to take initiative and break the silence.
๐น Elect someone to be a facilitator.
- Nominate candidates by @tagging them
- Or step up by @tagging yourself
- Congratulate those who step up ๐
- Use ๐emoji for the person you want to lead
- Don't elect the same person twice in a row.
๐ธ = The elected person's responsibility.
๐ธ Say: I've been elected to facilitate this meeting, but you need to follow me on this checklist, or you'll miss important parts of what we do.
๐ง Defining Your Values
๐ฅ Goals: Make a list of values on a public board that everybody understands and agrees on in your Legion.
2๏ธโฃ If this is the second time you're going through this, simply make sure new Legion members know your values. And explain to them why you actually treasure them the way that you do.
โ Set a timer for five minutes for this exercise. Work quietly and have everyone paste their results in Discord.
๐ธ Have your Legion make a list of 5 values they think are most important to an effective workplace and to order them from 1 to 10, with 1 being the highest.
Example: Integrity - to do what you say you're going to do.
๐ธ Vote together on the values you feel are most essential to your Legion.
โ Set a timer for five minutes for this exercise.
๐ธ Have everyone set up a Miro account.
๐ธ Steal this template and copy it into your own Miro board:
๐ธ Have everyone join the same board and make a list as follows of the values that you've brainstormed, the ones you've chosen, and how you define the ones you've chosen:
This is an example of what the results should look like. This board should serve as a core place for your whole Legion to understand your values and expectations.
๐ง Creating Your Org Chart
๐ฅ Goals: Have a reference that will help your team know who to go to when they need to solve a particular problem.
2๏ธโฃ Update the chart.
โ Set a timer for five minutes for this exercise.
๐ธ Work together to create a clear chart which defines who leads the Legion and who leads each Division and who leads each team.
๐ธ As part of this exercise, you need to appoint a second, third, and fourth in command of your Legion (1st Division Commander, 2nd etc.). They will be in charge on days when they're not available.
Your version of the chart should clearly state each name. You will be asked to submit this on final submission to create clarity concerning who is on what page.
๐ธ Explain that if anybody is confused or in trouble, they should go up this chart to see who they should speak to. Whether they're a team leader or whether they're mentoring the Division leader.
๐ง๐ง Registering Newly Established Teams
2๏ธโฃ Each team needs to re-register each time, so make sure they do that. It's a separate link on the same page.
๐ธ Identify the teams that got established during the team split.
๐ธ Have them break off now and fill in this form under "Re-Registration"
https://p1oc.net/igniteregister
๐ธ Ask them to come back when done.
๐ง๐ง Introductions
๐ธ Appoint somebody to help with Introductions for the day.
๐ธ Send them back to the Ignite host to help out. The Ignite host will explain how to do introductions if necessary.
๐ง๐ง Explain How Team Splitting Works
๐ธ Explain that team leaders are about to follow a checklist for teams.
๐ธ Paste this in chat:
Visual:
https://i.imgur.com/KHLkJpO.png
- - Host: (done by host)
- - Legion: https://p1oc.net/legionchecklist
- - Team: https://p1oc.net/nextsteps
๐ธ Explain it.
๐ธ Explain that experienced or ongoing teams might need to skip some parts of the checklist. Tell them to use common sense.
Example:
๐ฆ๐ฆ Header of a Section to Skip
๐ฆ Subsection You Should Probably Also Skip
๐ธ Tell them to remain in their voice channel when done.
๐ธ Explain that teams are encouraged not to work on their game right away but rather to go through the pitching process and to take a little slack in the early days since everybody needs to get their pitch approved before they can work on the game and this is deliberately designed to create a little bit of a slower pace so that people don't burn out as they go from one cycle to the next.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Split
๐ธ Have each team leader split off and follow this checklist with their team:
If you need some help splitting teams, use this guide
๐ธ Say: Now we're going to split up into teams and follow a particular checklist.
๐ธ Say: I'll post that checklist in chat now.
๐ธPaste: Checklist: https://p1oc.net/nextsteps Hub channel <#1235305125225168906>
๐ธ Say: Team leaders, I want you to find the hub channel and click on that now and then I'll send your team members to you.
๐ธ Say: Okay, if you see your team leader in a voice channel, I want you to go to their voice channel now.
๐ธ Distribute any team members left in your channel to the appropriate team.
๐ธ Stay in the chat with your team until all the other teams are gone. Keep reading while you wait and help teams that might be confused or stuck as they break up.
๐ธ Do the checklist https://p1oc.net/nextsteps, but right here in the channel that you're already in.
๐ธ Once the new teams register, they will come back, follow the checklist above with them "๐ง๐ง Day 1 Split" as you did with the other teams just now.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 1 FAQ
Can teams do multiple days on the next steps checklist before that day arrives?
Yes.
Can teams start working on their games before they have their pitch approved?
Ideally no. They should follow the checklist day by day instead and optimize their teams and goals.
We are looking for feedback on this here: https://share.deftform.com/VGGh1z
What if most of my Legion cannot work within the current time zone?
Have as many people as are available gather for the joint general meeting and when you break off with those people, make a decision then and there on what time you're going to meet later that day. Make sure to send your whole team a hammertime code to avoid time zone confusion: https://hammertime.cyou.
Whatever you do, do not forsake your daily meetings and don't have different times each day. Doing this will undermine the velocity of your team tremendously.
You will never find a time zone that supports everybody, and you shouldn't look to support everybody. You should draw a line in the sand and say, this is when we're meeting every single day. End of story. As otherwise, the confusion will result in even less people coming.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 2
๐ง๐ง Identify Team Leaders
๐ธ Say: Team leaders, post the name of your team in text chat now.
๐ธAction: Give them a moment to type their team names.
๐ธAction: Add the emoji ๐ and ๐ to each team's name.
๐ธPaste: Use ๐to indicate that you are part of a team and ๐to indicate that you are leading that team for today.
๐ง๐ง Introduction Givers
โ Capable leaders should finish in 3 minutes.
๐ธ Have each team rally one volunteer each to help onboard new members.
๐ธ Have one person volunteer for today and one person volunteer for tomorrow's Introductions for each team.
How to rally Introduction Givers
๐ธ Ask each team to post it's name and #teamthread
โ
Always explain why it's important -- "Ignite seeks to make the world's education free and we are being part of that".
โ Ask each team leader to appoint one introduction giver for their team for that day. -- "Team leaders you have two min to choose who you will send today to give introductions, make it fast if you can so we can move quickly, coordinate in your team thread."
โ Explain that those who step up are helping the whole Legion succeed by gathering helpfulness which will help you submit to the jam.
โ Never beg or nag.
๐ธSend today's Introduction volunteers back to the #๐คmeetings channel.
๐ธLet team leaders know that they will need to submit a list of all the Introduction givers they appointed throughout the cycle at the end of the jam, without it they won't be able to submit.
๐ง๐ง Review and Announce Important Dates
โ Capable leaders should finish in 4 minutes.
๐ธ Take a look at The Contest Process and highlight key upcoming events.
๐ธ It's at this time you should let them know about the pitch days and what to expect based on your experience. If you don't have experience with them, have someone in your Legion that does speak up.
๐ง๐ง Request Outreach
๐ธ Say: If you're looking for a particular skill to join your team right now, I want you to tag this tag up post in chat and let them know what sort of skill you're looking for.
๐ธ Paste: @seeking team -- Our team is looking for a programmer that does C# in unity. And we will be online for the next hour in voice, please come to our voice channel and tag us if you want to join.
๐ง๐ง Setting Up Legion Rules
๐ธ Legion Commanders, appoint someone to lead this part of the meeting if you feel you have someone capable available. Doing so will distribute leadership experience.
๐ธ Steal this part of the template and copy it into your own Miro board:
๐ง Read the Examples
โ Set a timer for 5 minutes for this exercise.
๐ธ Appoint two people as readers. They will each read one section out loud.
๐ธ Have them read, using proper channels and [P1] rules.
๐ง Brainstorm Values
โ Set a timer for 5 minutes for this exercise.
๐ธ Do a brainstorming session where everyone has three minutes to write down the three things they need in a workplace to work effectively, such as everyone being on time, or people treating each other with respect.
โ 5 min.
๐ธ Vote on the values you want to pursue together.
๐ธ Put someone in charge of turning the values you have voted on into the rules of your Legion.
๐ง๐ง Day 2 Split
๐ธ Explain that team leaders are about to follow a checklist for first-time teams.
๐ธ Have the team leaders create channels for their teams.
- Have them take this checklist with them:
๐ธ Have the team members follow the team leader into their new team channel.
๐ธ Continue to use the channel you're in and tell people that they can come back to the Legion channel if they have questions or concerns.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 3
๐ธSay: No one should work on their games until their pitches are approved by their Legion during the official pitch day.
๐ธ Do the usual:
๐ง๐ง Identify Team Leaders
๐ง๐ง Introduction Givers
๐ง๐ง Review and Announce Important Dates
๐ง๐ง Request Outreach
See Day 2 for details.
โ Time yourself and see if you can beat your time each day in doing this quickly and effectively.
๐ง๐ง Weekend Plans
๐ธ Note that we don't have official events on the weekend, but Legions can still meet. Some Legions will meet to play games together or do social activities, and others will meet to get ahead and others not at all.
๐ธ Decide if your Legion is going to meet on weekends, and if so, at the usual time or another time.
๐ธ The one advantage of meeting on the first weekend is that you can approve pitches faster, as the first day in which Legions are allowed to approve their pitches is Saturday.
๐ง๐ง Practice Pitch
๐ธSay: Today is practice pitch day. If you followed the instructions, you should be ready for the pitch today.
๐ธ Ask if there are any teams which did not follow the instructions and make a pitch. And split those teams off and have them work on the pitch instead of staying.
๐ธSay: Now, we're going to listen to everyone's pitch, and I want everyone to write down positives and negatives of each pitch as you hear them on your own piece of paper.
๐ธPaste: Template for feedback for each game:
`# Game Name
## Going Well:

โ
โ`
๐ธSay: Pitch quickly. You have 5 minutes, stay in the time limit or you will be disqualified.
๐ธSay: As people pitch write down their game name and 3 points of positive and negative feedback at least.
๐ธSay: Typically, when people pitch stuff, the advantage goes to the first person and the last person due to how human memory works. If you'd like to be the first team to pitch, speak up now. Speak up in voice chat only.
๐ธAction: Time the pitches and make sure that they stay within 5 minutes. Disqualify them if they take more than 6.
๐ธPaste this link: Copy your team's info link as follows: https://i.imgur.com/rs9LUi4.png
๐ง Pasting Pitch Info
๐ธSay: Now, in order from the first person to share their pitches to the last, I want you all to post in chat, with nobody else chatting, each different pitch with only 4 elements:
- Project name.
- Your one-sentence summary.
- Your planned impact on the world.
- A link to your team's registration. I have pasted a link which will show you how to get a link to your team's registration page.
๐ธSay: That's it. Good luck everybody, prepare to do that right now.
๐ธAction: Have everyone post.
Add a โ , ๐ค and โ to every pitch.
๐ธPaste in chat:
Feedback on the pitch should be based on this criteria:
# 8 slide pitch
- Is your idea put so simply that anyone can understand it in two slides? Does it have images?
- Is it clear how the game fulfills the team's goals.
- Is it clear how this game makes an impact on the world for good?
- Is the art style clear?
- Is it clear what the project will look like when complete and how long it will take the project to be completed if selected?
- Is it clear who the target audience is?
- Is it too wordy?
- Keep an eye out for the primary obstacle which the player is seeking to overcome in the game. If that doesn't exist, it's probably not a game.
๐ธSay: Every team should now create a thread with their game name, and the word feedback, so "Appleshoot Feedback". Team leaders, do that now, and if you don't know how to create a thread, speak up.
๐ธ Wait until all have made a thread.
๐ง Actual Pitch Session
๐ธAction: Do this for each pitch:
- Remind everyone to write down their feedback for the pitch
- Give them 5 min to pitch
- Celebrate the pitch with the soundboard
- Highlight the pros of the pitch
- Ask the audience if they can describe the primary obstacle faced by the player and how they can use strategy to overcome that obstacle.
- If the audience can't answer this question, tell them they need to go back and learn the basics of game design, which will be covered in the daily team checklist.
- Consider setting up a workshop dedicated to the subject for your Legion. Design workshop details >>
- Bring up any other cons.
- Ask the community for feedback on the pitch
- ๐ธSay: Anyone want to be brave and share some affirmations or concerns about the pitch? What are some things the pitch did well or where was it lacking?
- ๐ธSay: Feedback is always welcome in chat too.
- ๐ธSay: Anything that confused you about the pitch?
๐งFeedback and Voting
๐ธSay: In order to vote on the pitches, you need to first write your positive and negative feedback of each pitch down. And then we're going to post that feedback in a thread. For each piece of feedback you post in a thread, you get one vote, positive or negative, which you can leave on any of the pitches today.
๐ธ Give everyone two minutes to vote on the best pitch.
๐ธ Congratulate the winners.
๐ธSay: We will be coming back in our next meeting to actually do the actual pitches -- today was just practice. Refine your pitch, rest and prepare for tomorrow.
๐ง๐ง Split
๐ธ Follow the same instructions as ๐ง๐ง Day 2 Split.
๐ธ Don't be lazy with this. Actually go up and read it. Because you don't want to miss any of the key points, like people coming back to your channel for questions.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 4 - Official Pitch Day
๐ธ Do the usual:
๐ง๐ง Identify Team Leaders
๐ง๐ง Introduction Givers
๐ง๐ง Review and Announce Important Dates
๐ง๐ง Request Outreach
See Day 2 for details.

๐ธ Give everyone 5 minutes to write their feedback and vote on the best pitches.
๐ธ Congratulate the winners.
๐ธ Ask the Ignite Host to give 4000 helpfulness to the winning team via a ticket (can be done after).
๐ง๐ง Split the Winning 50%
๐ธ Those who won should be split off to do this checklist:
๐ธ Keep back your most experienced Legion member to help you with the next step.
๐ง Losing 50%
Giving Feedback
๐ธ Work with the person that stayed back with you to give feedback on the losing 50% of games, on how they can improve their pitch for the next pitch day.
๐ธ Have those groups that you think have potential go and improve their pitch.
๐ธ Keep back those who you think need to consider a different game idea. Or a total revamp of their pitch.
Inviting Change
๐ธ As the Legion Commander you must ensure that people don't waste their time making games that don't have a solid gameplay loop.
๐ธ Work together to talk to the team leaders you believe are more lacking in their approach than the others.
๐ธ Talk to them about why you think their game idea is lacking and how you think they could improve their loop.
๐ธ If the game idea is fundamentally flawed in your opinion, let them know that, but gently, and invite them to create a new game with the same theme and ideas.
๐ง๐ง Split the Losing 50%
๐ธ Ask them to go through and refine their pitch for the next pitch day.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 5 - 2nd Official Pitch Day
๐ธ Do the usual:
๐ง๐ง Identify Team Leaders
๐ง๐ง Introduction Givers
This time make sure it's a new introduction giver because we don't want to overload the same people over and over.
๐ง๐ง Request Outreach
See Day 2 for details.
๐ง๐ง Legion Wars Explained
๐ธ Say: In Legion Wars, Legions present their best game to a competing Legions in a central meeting.
๐ธ Open the Contest Process dates list together and identify the next Legion War.
๐ธ Say: During the internal game test day, Legions must choose which game they will present during the Legion Wars.
๐ธ Say: Winners earn points towards victory and Helpfulness, depending on the contest guidelines.
Legion Wars Details
- Weekly playtesting - dates.
- Only the best game from every Legion
- Prizes: 15/100 pts for victory + 30,000 Helpfulness (subject to changes)
- Legions are able to bring a different game to each event.
๐ง๐ง Set Up Your Game Test Days
The goal of game test days is to get the best game identified in your Legion so you can prepare for Legion Wars.
๐ธ Work together with your team to decide on three test days.
Usually you want to have these one day before the Legion War.
๐ธ Review the Legion Wars schedule and discuss the best times for your group to prepare for test day before Legion Wars each week.
๐ธ Decide on a time, do one of these voting sessions at a time, one for each week's test day:
1) Have everyone open hammertime: https://hammertime.cyou/
2) Post YOUR ideal time to have the next game test day using Hammertime:
Example: <t:1720815180:F> Friday, July 12, 2024 2:13 PM
2) Add these emoji to the message: ๐ or โ
3) Tell everyone: If you vote โyou must go to https://hammertime.cyou/ and put in a new time in that same week that you would prefer.
4) The times with the most votes "win".
๐ธ Repeat this voting process three times once for each week positioning the day before each Legion War.
๐ง Pairing with Other Teams
๐ธ Now your goal is to create an event so that other people can join you for your test day in order to get cross-pollination during feedback.
1) Look near the bottom of the Discord under feedback, find: "#๐community-events".
2) Find the pinned post which includes the instructions.
Have everyone vote on the three final concluded days to see which one is the one in which the least people can attend.
3) Assign a team member to follow the instructions in the template post to create two game test days for your team on the days with the most votes.
๐ธ Work together with your Legion to Find a good time on the week that has the most X's in order to join another Legion's test day.
Assign somebody as a Legion ambassador to apply on other Legion's posts, and talk with other them and get back to your Legion with the date agreed on as a test time.
๐ง๐ง Decide on a Prize
๐ธ Teams that join Legion Wars must offer a prize to the winner of Legion Wars. This can be as simple as a game key, a piece of art with somebody's name on it. Whatever it might be, it shouldn't be too expensive. And it should be all done in fun. Find the Community Prizes section together and decide on a prize that you can offer to the winner of Legion Wars.
๐ธ Choose three total prizes. Be creative, make it fun.
๐ง๐ง Actual Pitches
๐ธ Repeat all the steps of the previous day's "๐ง๐ง Actual Pitches". However, this time all pitches will be "approved" in the end unless you all agree there is no real "game" in the pitch.
๐ธ You may use your discretion to hold back certain games but you will need to meet 1-1 with their teams for future re-pitches.
๐ง๐ง Split
๐ธ Follow the same instructions as ๐ง๐ง Day 2 Split.
๐ธ Don't be lazy with this. Actually go up and read it. Because you don't want to miss any of the key points, like people coming back to your channel for questions.
๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 6
๐ธ Decide if today is game test day. If so, follow the guide and push today's instructions to tomorrow.
How to do a Game Test Day -- A Guide
๐ง๐ง๐ง How to Do a Game Test Day
๐ธ Since you're choosing your own test days, we will need you to create room for them in the daily schedule. For example, if you choose to do a test day on ๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 7 you should not follow the checklist for ๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 7 on ๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 7 or you might create an hours-long meeting. Instead, you should move ๐ง๐ง๐ง Day 7 to a more open day.
๐ง๐ง Invites
๐ธ Assign the person who made the post on Discord and Reddit to see who responded and to reach out to those people asking them to come down in 10 min.
๐ธ Have everyone reach back out to those friends who were interested to test some games to send them this:
hey, did you get verified over at the P1 Discord? We're testing the game. We'd love to have you right now.

๐ธ Paste: That video covers a whole lot.
- Right now the industry is very difficult to get into because you have to have work experience before you get started.
- [P1] is a place where anybody who already has skills can get started.
- However, [P1] can not really function without people helping [P1]'s system itself. Namely by taking Introduction Chats for new people and dividing teams.
๐ธ Say: In your own words, everyone write why Introductions and team divisions are essential based on what you saw in the video.
๐ธ Share why you think helping out the community is important.
๐ธ Once all are done, paste:
When [P1] switched from working on a centralized project to being a place where people could empower themselves to get the experience necessary to get into the industry, they made a system that depends on it's members to scale up.
Without scaling up [P1] does not have the number of contributors needed to attract recruiters to help everyone get jobs.
