Team Registration - Next Steps - Guide

If you are filling out the registration form in the middle of a meeting in which the whole Community is present, you should bookmark this page, put this on hold, finish that checklist, and then come back here. However, if you didn't just come from the massive meeting where everybody was split up into teams, you should go through this checklist now.

Critical Next Steps for Your Team

The difference between successful teams and unsuccessful teams is their ability to attract, connect, and maintain members.

In this guide, we'll provide daily instructions to ensure your team's success. Meet daily and follow this guide. You can skip ahead in this guide or do multiple days at once if you want to. Make sure to do "🟦🟦🟦 Today", now.

🟦🟦🟦 Today

Meetings

The best way to keep members engaged is to have them be in voice chat on a regular basis. The first step is to iterate and reiterate your team's daily meeting time to your team.

Learning how to use Hammertime together right now is a very valuable exercise.

Teams benefit significantly from mentorship, guidance, and testing during the competition. Daily meetings with all teams are essential. To find the meeting times, go to Discord, click on "Events," and ensure your team subscribes to receive notifications for daily events.

https://p1oc.net/ignitedaily is a link to the event.

Please report that link if it breaks.

Joining a Division

Every team can benefit from mentoring by teams that have submitted projects to the jam. A division is simply a group of teams under one experienced team's leadership. Here's how to join a division:

1) Ensure your team leader has done !elected-lead

2) Ensure you have unlocked the Jam Participant role

3) Your team lead (only) should see:

You want to make a post using the following template in that area. Keep in mind that all fields are optional. Change, add or remove anything you would like to.

@Elected Team Leader πŸ”₯, I am interested to join your division if you believe I would be right for you.

### For older team leaders:

Note: In case you missed the division update, every team that has successfully submitted to the Ignite Jam becomes a division. New teams can apply to:
(1) Pair up with other new teams to form a division (even before submitting)
(2) Join already-established divisions.

*Two divisions cannot unite, and teams cannot change divisions unless they create their own new division.*

### If you feel my team is ideal for your division, please reply by creating a new thread.

🟦🟦🟦 Day 2

Project Goals

Successful teams don't just go with the first idea. Instead, they brainstorm various ideas to achieve their goals. We have an exercise you should do with your team to set things up for your next meeting.

Open this link, scroll down to "🟦🟦 Develop a Goal Statement" https://articles.p1games.com/daily-meeting-checklists-teams/day-1-teams-team-goal-formation-meeting#-your-mission-v2

Skip the parts of the checklist you've completed already.

Assigning Roles

The next day, follow this checklist. Some relate to pitching your game idea. If you're late or early to a jam, skip pitching and act as if your idea is pre-approved.

🟦🟦🟦 Day 3

Remember you can do as many of these in a day as you can handle. Some do 3 days' work in one, while others spread it out.

Learning Design

Your first task today is to learn how to ensure a viable gameplay loop. We use a workshop system that absorbs our mentors' knowledge in recorded form, then discuss their insights to create impactful games. Start with the checklist at 🟧🟧🟧 Learning Activities, selecting "Design" as your option.

Focus on Mechanics-Based Design

A rookie mistake we often see teams make is focusing on narrative and art rather than on a second by second gameplay loop that's replayable throughout the experience. Work together with your team right now to make sure that your gameplay loop is indeed a loop. And no, "level start, level finish" is not a loop. A second-by-second loop is a repeatable challenge you engage in in the game to overcome an obstacle using strategy.

Updating Your Team Post

By now, you should know what you're doing and why. Now, make that clear in a simple format to attract people to your team.

The current post is insufficient for understanding your team, its roles, and your project. Now is your chance to enhance your post so others can grasp what you're doing, why, and decide if your team is the right fit for them.

This post should also serve as sufficient onboarding material for new members.

  • Visit "team-list":

  • Click your post (search it in the top bar if needed) and then hover over it and click "edit".

Here is what it should contain, including ideal formatting:
