How to Set Up a Workshop

Why We Do Workshops

We do workshops to allow Legions to share information about what's working.

Decide on a Theme

Everyone should collaborate to choose a theme for the workshop. This theme could be based on important lessons from the last round or a topic you want to learn more about.

You can either study a particular subject together or invite people to share lessons they've learned on a specific subject.

 Here are some theme ideas:

  1. How to earn freelance income as a Blender artist.
  2. How to get a job in UI/UX.
  3. How to figure out your passion in game development.
  • Out of the box ideas:
    • Game night
    • Movie night
    • Playing games to dig deep on game design
    • 1-1 Legions ask each other questions about what's working to share tips

To discover a theme, have everyone independently write down their ideas for three minutes. Then, regroup, share, and vote on each other's themes to select one that summarizes the event.

Recording Requirements

You must record and open source the workshop contents, uploading the file to the Assets Discord. We ask you to make a video of the workshop showing your camera and those asking questions. Ensure the sound is balanced for posting to our YouTube channel so more people can benefit. The video quality doesn't need to be great, but the audio must be clear.

  1. Do a test video to ensure audio balance.
  2. Let everyone know you are going to record.
  3. Upload the contents and post them to a hosting service and place the link in [P1] Assets: https://p1oc.net/assets
    1.  Files under 500MB can be uploaded directly.
    2. Make a new post.

Tip: Don't worry about editing it or making it perfect! Perfect is the enemy of done.

Announcing the Time of Your Workshop

Announce your workshop early so people can mark it on their calendars. This maximizes the number of people who can benefit from the live workshop.

To announce your event, visit the listed Discord channel, click on the sticky post, and then select the second option.

Be aware the name of the channel will change, but it will be in a similar place and look similar.

Doing the Workshop Itself

  • Properly plan and timebox speakers if you have them.
  • Plan and timebox Q&A sessions.
  • Plan and timebox any videos you want to play and have people comment on.
