๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Learning Activities

If you as a team lead do not know how to use activities, use the guide to start one as a test.

How to use activities (guide)

Step 1: Click the ๐Ÿš€

๐Ÿ”ธ Step 2: Choose "Watch Together"

๐Ÿ”ธ Step 3: Put in the URL

๐Ÿ”ธ Step 4: Have everyone click "Join Activity"

๐Ÿ”ธ Step 5: Say: "Click the Rocket Emoji"

๐Ÿ”ธMake sure they are all watching: You can see who clicked the rocket emoji.

๐Ÿ”ธ Call out the names of those who are not watching!

๐Ÿ”ธ Note that when you lead an activity, you are in charge of the video that's playing, including where you're at in the video and when it's paused. However, everyone can set their own level of volume, so it's good to encourage people to do this.

๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง๐ŸŸง Recommendations

Now you are choosing items of study. You can ask people to bring their own videos to watch together or you can watch the following on each subject.

Design

๐Ÿฅ‡Your goal is to facilitate a dynamic voice-based discussion on the subject of the video after each video.

๐Ÿ”ธ Watch together:

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: Before we start this video, be aware we will be calling people up and asking questions after so write down notes!

๐Ÿ”ธ Say: Also, Samuel asked me to say: The video features Samuel and the word Metaverse but Samuel has never been part of the crypto/web3 side of things but rather shares a love and passion for virtual worlds.

๐Ÿ”ธ Ask questions (10-20 min):

Make sure people don't hide behind their keyboard but speak up on mic.

  • What's something new that stuck you when watching the video?
  • What's something you were reminded of when watching the video that you will change up next time?
  • What are the top mistakes you made when making games and what did you learn?
  • What do you think was the most challenging concept or technique presented in the video? How would you approach it?

๐Ÿ”ธ Watch separately starting at 1 min 54 seconds and stopping at 5:47.

๐Ÿ”ธPaste: https://gamedesignskills.com/build-a-game-challenge/day-1/ Hit ๐Ÿ‘ on this text when done.

๐Ÿ”ธSay: Don't delay and be sure to quit at 5:47 or else we will all be waiting on you. Go!

๐Ÿ”ธ Ask questions (10-20 min):

Pick one random person, and ask them the first question, then pick another and move on to the second or use whatever method to create a lively discussion:

  • Based on what you saw, what creates the fun in a game?
  • Based on what you saw, why does opposition matter when making games?
  • Have you ever seen or made games which lacked one of the key elements of a game as listed in the video? If so which one? How did it effect your game?

๐Ÿ”ธ Watch together:

Work together to create the gameplay loop seen in the video.

๐Ÿ”ธSay:  Everyone copy the loop to a corner of the whiteboard and put your name above it.

๐Ÿ”ธSay:  Now I want to give everyone 5 min to add something that fits to the gameplay loop, then we are going to go over the loops together and discuss why they work and why they don't in our opinions based on the video we saw.

๐Ÿ”ธ Discuss together and choose one loop update as the best one.

  • What are some of the mistakes mentioned that you have actually made?
  • What are some ways anyone can integrate signs and feedback into a platformer game?
  • What is a game you played which has an incredible unique selling point that is simple.
  • What's one way you could focus on making a game watchable?
